BEAUTIFUL DENTAL CROWNS – RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY
when is a dental crown necessary?
Your dentist will want to place a dental crown when the structure of your natural tooth has been severely compromised. Causes of structural damage include:
- Severe tooth decay
- Root canal therapy
- Moderate-to-severe cracks or breakage
- Severe intrinsic stains that do not respond to traditional teeth whitening treatments
different crowns for different needs
At Dr. Gina Liggio Maestri DDS, we partner with a trusted dental lab where skilled ceramists create custom-fitted crowns from a variety of materials, including:
- Dental porcelain: This durable ceramic material contains a high silica content, lending it a reflectivity and translucence that perfectly mimics natural tooth enamel. All-porcelain crowns make an ideal choice for the front of the mouth.
- Zirconia: Another ceramic material, zirconia has a highly realistic appearance and is nearly indestructible. Due to its enhanced durability, zirconia crowns can be made much thinner and require less enamel preparation. However, zirconia crowns are so strong that they work best for placement on the back teeth where patients need more bite force.
